#50Booksin2014

3 Jan

So, last night I finished the first book I was planning to read for my #50Booksin2014 goal (I’ll have a proper review on it on Wednesday, I promise), so the time that I thought I had to compile a list together of the books that I was going to read has either shortened tremendously because of how quickly I may be devouring these books, OR has been lengthened because now I have until next Tuesday to compile the official list.

Either way, I don’t even really have 50 books lined up to read for this year. So I’m gonna need some suggestions! Please be sure to send some my way, via whatever means you can (I know morse code, and am a sucker for a well written telegram).

NaNoWriMo 2012 Day 2

2 Nov

So it’s day 2 already of NaNoWriMo. If you don’t know what NaNoWriMo is, you should check it out the info site here, but basically you are trying to write a $50k word novel in 30 days. I try this every year, and every year I fail, but it’s a great exercise in writing and I enjoy the ideas I come up with.

So this year I decided to work on a Young Adult Urban Fantasy I’ve had brewing in my head for a while. It involves magic and the rhythm games we used to play as kids.

So how am I doing so far? Well I have an idea, and I seem to have a plot, and I’m actually feeling like I’m having fun writing.

However I’m already behind on the word count. Of the 1667 words I should have so far, I only have 155 words. Which means today I have to write my ass off and meet the 1667 for today OR recalculate my daily average for the rest of the month (which would be 1718).

Let’s see how this goes!

Things I Want: Harley Quinn Corset Sweater

27 Jan

Say you want to impress a girl who likes comic books, we’ll use me as an example, and you aren’t sure what she would want. I have here 3 questions you should ask yourself when looking for a gift:

1. Does she like comic books?

2. Does she like the Batman series of comic books?

3. Does she like a psychotic villainess who was originally named Harlene Quinzel?

If the answer to all three of those questions is yes, and that girl is me, then you should buy me this sweater. The Harley Corset Hoodie by MoroseMelonHead pretty awesome and is actually one of 3 Harley Quinn inspired, and countless (4) Batman inspired hoodies on her Esty page. And unlike a lot of things on Etsy (which you can find conveniently on Regretsy), they’re well made and something that you could wear outside and in public. Or at least to a Con, if you don’t want normal people wondering why you have bobbles on your head.

Things I Want: Neverending Story eBook Cover

21 Dec

If the actual Neverending Story were going to be on anything it would be an eBook. I mean, the space is nearly limitless, so the story can literally go on forever. It’s perfect, really. So the question here is, since I have an eReader (and I love my nook dearly), why don’t I have this Neverending Story eBook Cover?

As long as I don’t have the cover, there will be no acceptable answer other than “You will have it, within 3-5 business days!”

Calvin And Hobbes Snowmen Video

17 Dec

As sort of a Happy Birthday to my mom (who introduced me to the awesome that is Calvin and Hobbes, and that sense of humor we have) I’m just gonna leave this here.

Proud

This post will be fairly short and is being fairly quickly so forgive me for any typos or spelling errors that may occur. I promise I’ll come back and fix them later (or learn how to use a spellcheck, maybe?), however right now I’m super excited and super proud of myself and my associates.

Like I’ve said before I am a part of a project called Nerdgasm Noire Network. It’s a podcast by black nerd girls about nerdom, nerdery and nerdism. The original idea came from my friend Melissa who loves reading comic books, books and watching sci-fi shoes just as much as I do. After a few really funny, really nerdy conversations she admitted to me that she wanted to start a podcast that talked about various parts of nerd culture. I was totally down for it, because I loved the idea and got super passionate about it.

What I didn’t realize was, that I was going to love this project like it was my own child! It started off simple, with just a podcast and a twitter, then grew into a tumblr as we started finding more and more things that we wanted to share, but didn’t have time to share on the podcast. We thought we were just going to stick with the tumblr, but after lots and lots of ideas for serious writing that just didn’t fit into the tumblr format we decided to start an actual blog.

And here it is!

My pride and F-ing joy, and I’m pretty sure the pride and joy of the other girls in the podcast and the other writers who so graciously accepted our invitation for them to write for us. Just looking at the stats from the launch day today made me giggle with excitement. It felt so good to facilitate this with my co-hostesses, it feels like the work I’d rather be doing. I mean, I got so excited looking at the stats that I had to send a message to the writer who got the most views today and congratulate him on having the most views! I was 2 seconds away from sending him a gift basket. That’s not strange right?

So I guess this is where I put the rundown on the entire project, yet?
